HR 5483, the Railroad Retirement Disability Earnings
Act of 2006 is being opposed by the Association of Americans Railroads (AAR). This
bill, if passed, will increase the outside earnings of a disabled railroad
employee from the current $400 per month to $700 per month with
cost-of-living increases factored in as well. This would bring railroad
retirement disability earnings to the same level as those on disability
under the social security system. On October 26, 2006, a letter written by
Mr. Edward Hamberger President & CEO of the AAR to the Committee on
Health, Education, Labor and Pensions surfaced opposing the bill.
If you have not already done so, please contact your
two United States Senators in support of HR 5483 as the Congress will
reconvene on November 9 shortly after the elections. Time is very short.
Please call or email their offices ASAP. You can go to the NARVRE web
site www.narvre.com
and click on "Contacting Congress" to find their email addresses. Many
Members of Congress do not have email address so you need to go through
their web sites. This is done to filter out non-constituent mail.
You also can call the Capitol Hill operator at
the NARVRE Toll Free numbers at:
