Darla Fent ~ National Chaplain

I am honored to have the privilege of serving as National Chaplain for the BLET Auxiliary for a second term, in accordance with the bylaws changes implemented at the 2nd Quadrennial Convention in October 2014. I am a founding member of River City Auxiliary #12 in Omaha, Nebraska/Council Bluffs, Iowa. I have been their secretary/treasure since we were first chartered in 1995.

Larry and I have been married since January 1970. We have three wonderful children. Keri and her husband Jason live in Grand Junction, Colorado. Heather and her husband Matt live in Woodbine, Iowa, and have have two exceptional sons, Dillon age 6, and Wyatt age 4, and they will bless us with a new grandbaby around December 1, 2014. Our son Chad and his wife Katie are in Castlerock, Colorado, and have three amazing children, Rory age 5, Scarlet age 4, and Henry who is almost 3.

Larry retired from Union Pacific Railroad after working 31 years. During that time, I was a stay-at-home mom, which is one of the best jobs you can have, besides gramma! When our children were out of school, I went to work part-time at the College Store/Bookstore at our wonderful junior college, Iowa Western. Because of the benefits of Railroad Retirement, I joined the ranks of the retired when I turned 60.

I am very involved with my church and am a member of the Administrative Board at Broadway United Methodist. I have been on the Board of United Methodist Women for 18 years and their president for 11 years. I have co-chaired our annual Bazaar and Harvest Dinner for 16 years. These are our main means of raising money for the many mission projects we fund.

When I was first elected to serve as your National Chaplain in 2010, it was because of the wonderful example set by past National Chaplain Mary Anna Mullins and her encouragement that I felt it was the right time to serve. At the 2014 National Convention, my decision to run for a second term was because of the deep sense of commitment and pride in the position. I am very grateful to my auxiliary sisters at the convention for choosing me by acclamation to be their National Chaplain for four more years. I believe that it is my strong faith and belief that God is with us always that gives me the solid foundation to fulfill my duties with dignity and honor.
